The asteroids are simply rocks duplicated and rotated in C4D. However, the size is accurate because it was rendered accurately with C4D 
I use C4D for my asteroids. Basically, just generate a rock looking object (I think there's even a script on Deviantart that does it) and render with the lighting identical to your image. Then just paste the image in a play with the blending styles
